The beginnings...

The Recommendation:

This is the beginning of my comic book journey.  It was long ago, I was 31 years old.  Times were more simple two years ago.  Jeremy suggested Scott Snyder to me and this is the first comic I read when I seriously got into comics.

The Creators:

What can be said that hasn’t already been said about this series? Snyder is the voice of Batman in every way.  He understands the character in and out.  It is drawn by Greg Capullo and his style is incredible.  One of my favorite artists, and a good guy as well.  I think they could be the next Claremont/Byrne.  They are signed on to do another 24 issues to together.  I think they are the best thing that is coming out of DC at the moment.

The Court:

This story arc that begins with Batman #1  involves a villain that is new, which is refreshing.  It is a year long story arc and is called the Court of Owls.  Batman has become a bit arrogant over the years, thinking he knows all there is to know about Gotham and what the city is really about.  It is his city in every way.  Everything is familiar, things come easily to him  It turns out this is not the case.

There is a dark force that has been in Gotham for longer than Bruce as been alive.  They have permeated into every corner of the city, into every inhabitant that lives there.  The city is controlled by this Court, this group of assassins that are nearly unstoppable.  It will take everything Bruce has to defeat them and to realize that maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t know everything.

This series has so many outstanding moments, from the opening study of what Gotham is, to an awesome bike chase, Bruce being kicked thru a huge building, clever paneling and artistry, Bruce being broken mentally and physically, an amazing fight in the batcave and a twist at the end.  This book is a must read for anyone who likes comics.
